I’ve never been. What is Zombicon?
For five years now, Zombicon has been a zombie-themed art and music festival held Downtown Fort Myers, FL. It gives people the chance to dress up and express their creativity by “zombying-up”, and filling the streets of our beautiful historic downtown. The very same downtown that was used in George Romero’s “Day of the Dead” in 1985. (Watch it on our VIDEOS page) Zombicon is run by “Pushing DaiZies, Inc.”, a non-profit organization hell-bent on collecting food donations for Harry Chapin Food Bank and blood donations for the Lee Memorial Blood Center. This year is a little different than past years. Zombicon WEEKEND (you heard right) will feature a daytime convention in the Harborside Convention Center filled with vendors, workshops, performances, interactivities, video games, movies, costume contests and more. When night falls, Zombicon hits the streets in a downtown-wide street festival with bands, DJs, drink specials, rides and more.

The convention starts Sunday, October 19th, Saturday, October 20th and Sunday, October 21st. VIP tickets will be available for the Friday night pre-party called “The Pre-mature Burial”. Stay Tuned for more info. Tickets will also be available for Sunday morning’s “Bloody Brunch”. Again, stay tuned.

We don’t live in Fort Myers. Where can we stay?![]()
We are currently working with area hotels to set up special event rates. We would highly recommend staying both Friday and Saturday nights, allowing you to take full advantage of the Zombicon weekend. To be kept informed of the Preferred Hotel situation, sign up to be included on our Z-mail list here.
What’s this year’s theme? And do we have to dress theme?
This year’s theme is “THE GALACTIC INFECTION”. In short: sci-fi. And you most certainly do NOT have to dress according to the theme, though most attendees do. Need some costume ideas or tips? We’ve posted an entire gallery of inspirational photos. Sign up to be included on our Z-mail list here.
I’ve never dressed up before, and wouldn’t know where to start. Do we HAVE to dress up?
You by no means have to dress up. It is perfectly acceptable to be a spectator at Zombicon, although we encourage you to participate. One of Zombicon’s most popular features is always the “Zombification Station”, where you can be “infected” by professional makeup artists at the event, because (trust us) being a zombie is the most fun.
2011 was incredibly packed. What plans are in place to manage ZombiCon’s growth?
Yes, managing such overwhelming growth has been a struggle. As one would imagine, throwing a party that draws over 20,000 lumbering corpses is a challenge! We kindly ask that you overlook any rough edges of years past, and look instead toward the full-fledged CONVENTION of 2012. Not only are we incorporating an indoor convention from 10am on, but we’re expanding into an entire weekend-long event. Not only will this better accommodate the sheer numbers, but also help to compartmentalize those zombies out there with different interests, and, uh… Bedtimes.
