The 2012 theme: “THE GALACTIC INFECTION…”
We thought the biggest threat to our existence was ourselves. We were wrong. The planet is in danger – but not just from global warming. Not just from pollution, over-drilling or over-population. The threat is from above – from outside this world. The cover-up so far has been spectacular. NASA has referred to the dark cluster originally discovered by the Perkins Observatory telescope as “just an anomaly”. What NASA won’t say is that it’s headed straight toward Earth.  Whatever it is must be coming from an unfathomable distance. It will break through our atmosphere, and most will never see it coming. What is this dark cluster? What potential threat may it pose? What viral entities or lifeforms may it hurdle upon our planet? We don’t know for sure. But we know when: October 20th, 2012. Ready yourself.

ZombiCon’s Growth…
ZombiCon has been dubbed by Fort Myers city officials as “a bona fide phenomenon”. In just 5 years, this zombie-themed music and art fest has grown from a mere “shin-dig” into what many say is the single largest gathering of party-goers Downtown Fort Myers has ever seen. Ever. Not only does ZombiCon draw a horde of incredible numbers, but it raises an inspiringly diverse one, as well. From infants to elderlies, mo-hawks to John Deere caps, Church-goers to, well, ZOMBIES – this “bona fide phenomenon” has captured the hearts of fun-lovers, local and tourist alike.

What plans are in place to manage this growth?
Yes, managing such overwhelming growth has been a struggle. As one would imagine, throwing a party that draws over 20,000 lumbering corpses is a challenge, especially when accomplished by a tiny group of inspired local artists, all with full-time jobs and some even with new-born infants! We kindly ask that you overlook any rough edges of years past, and look instead toward the full-fledged CONVENTION of 2012. Not only are we incorporating an indoor convention from 10am on, but we’re expanding into an entire weekend-long event. Not only will this better accommodate the sheer numbers, but also help to compartmentalize those zombies out there with different interests, and, uh… Bedtimes.

Fort Myers, FL: “International Zombie Tourist Destination”
Essentially, our goal is to make Fort Myers an “International Zombie Tourist Destination”. Last year we met zombies from other cities, states, and even other countries. We love our tourists, and from what we hear, they’re loving us more and more. We’ve been told by Guinness World Records that we should be patient – they’re still tallying numbers around the globe. But we know for fact, that we’ve UNOFFICIALLY SHATTERED THE WORLD RECORD FOR GATHERED ZOMBIES. Fort Myers is on the map, in a major way. With our “music-fest” now turning into a “convention-weekend”, we believe we are well on our way to galvanizing our position in the entertainment-tourism marketplace. We encourage all Fort Myers businesses to reach out and help, any way they can. For ideas and information, please email us at: undead@zombicon.com

HISTORY:

ZombiCon is the largest gathering of Zombies (and those who love them) in the State of Florida, and possibly the WORLD!

This epic event is part tribute to Fort Myers’ “Zombie History” and part Interactive Improvisational Theater. ZOMBICON has been called a “Bona Fide Phenomenon”, by The City of Fort Myers! It began humbly in 2007 when about 350 artists, performers and zombie lovers gathered on The Patio de Leon in Downtown Fort Myers for a celebration of art and zombie culture. Drawing inspiration from George Romero’s DAY OF THE DEAD, which was filmed in the area, participants dressed as their own version of “The Living Dead” and limped through the historic streets of The River District. You don’t just come to the event… you ARE the event.

Today, participants can attend theatrical workshops, have professional horror make-up applied, dance to live music, enjoy a variety of unique performances, and of course, compete for the Best Zombie Costume!

Each year local and International artists exhibit their work in the “Dark Art Show“, a gallery exhibition which has featured pieces by Clive Barker, H.R. Giger and Marilyn Manson. Our Goon Squad guides the horde past local businesses and restaurants in the annual Zombie Walk, which retraces the steps of the classic movie!

The Zombie virus is spreading at an alarming rate! In just 5 years, ZOMBICON has grown to over 20,000 attendants, with an attempt to break the World Record for “Largest Zombie Gathering”. (We’re still awaiting results from Guinness)

ZOMBICON was founded in 2007, by a handful of local artists, now incorporated as Pushing Daizies, Inc. a non-profit organization. Pushing Daizies, Inc. supports all forms of art, art education and culture.
